Aldershot Student Named as Electrical Apprentice of the Year

Matt Taylor, an Electrical Installation Apprentice studying at Aldershot College, has been crowned the winner of the 2018 SPARKS UK Electrical Apprentice of the Year Competition.

Matt is completing his apprenticeship with Inspired Electrical Contractors Ltd., an Aldershot based company managed by Darren Cole. He was selected to enter the competition by the College after he demonstrated his expertise in electrical installation during an internal competition.

Having proven his skills in the regional heats in March, Matt wired his way to first place at the competition final which took place at the 3M Customer Innovation Centre in Bracknell.

Matt has walked away from the competition with a new title and a brand new set of electrical tools. Commenting on his competition win, Matt told SPARKS Magazine:

“I’m ecstatic – I just didn’t see myself winning. I entered to give myself a challenge and I’ve definitely achieved that.”

“The other competitors were great and what I’ll take away from this is the knowledge that I can do something that I thought I couldn’t.”

Applications are still open to study at Aldershot College and Farnborough College of Technology this September. To find out more about their wide range of courses and to apply for 2018, visit www.farn-ct.ac.uk.
